Modern Farmhouse

The homeowners wanted to enhance the original building with a bold modern farmhouse look, but also needed more space for their family of five than the original 2-bedroom house could offer. Utilizing the original foundation and referencing an original plat of survey allowed the new front porch steps to encroach into the front yard setback, while a new addition filled the oversized side yard, rather than adding on to the rear of the house.

While a portion of the new front elevation references the original home’s shape and appearance, the addition provides a glimpse of the delicate wood stair within through the bold high-contrast vertical windows. Inside, this creates a sense of openness with abundant natural light and aligned views through the home. The elevated height of the first floor level paired with the stair placement work together to provide privacy within from the street.
